What did you enjoy most about attending Carmel?Ìý

What I loved most about Carmel was its tight-knit and nurturing community. Being in a Jewish school in Perth helped me connect deeply with my religion and culture while building friendships that have lasted well beyond graduation. The small classes fostered close bonds with both teachers and classmates, making Carmel feel more like a family than a school. The strong emphasis on values and ethics provided a lasting foundation that I continue to draw on today.

What skills, knowledge, subjects or people from Carmel helped you in your life or career?

Carmel’s strong focus on ethics and values has been invaluable in both my personal life and career. The subjects that challenged me to think critically, like Religion and Life and Literature, helped me develop my problem-solving skills. This was very useful when pursuing a career in consulting. The supportive teachers, who genuinely cared about our success, also played a large role in shaping my confidence and work ethic. Most of all, I am thankful for the friendships I formed at Carmel, and I couldn’t have asked for a more supportive and enjoyable experience.

Tell us about your journey since graduation. Past roles, achievements, personal and professional highlights.

Since graduating 10 years ago, it has been quite a journey!
I studied Economics and Finance at UWA and had the honour of serving as AUJS (Australasian Union of Jewish Students) President of WA, which strengthened my leadership skills and deepened my connection to the Jewish student community. I was able to finish my Undergraduate degree at Tel Aviv University, studying Business Entrepreneurship and Innovation, which helped me develop my love for Israel and passion for entrepreneurship.

After my Undergrad, I decided to study a Master’s in Public Health at UWA. This was a turning point for me, as it sparked my interest in healthcare and saw me pivot from my original plan of pursuing Law. After graduation, I joined the global consulting firm Bain & Company, where I worked for two years. It was an intense and rewarding experience that sharpened my analytical skills and exposed me to a wide range of industries.

Last June, I moved to Israel, and I’m now working at a health startup in Tel Aviv. This decision reflects the strong connection to Judaism and Israel that I developed during my 14 years at Carmel. Living here has been made even more special by having my two best friends from Carmel, Rebecca and Noa, living in Tel Aviv with me. It’s been an incredible opportunity to align my career with my love for Israel and the values instilled at Carmel.

What advice do you have for our current Carmel students who are preparing for their future after graduation?

My main advice is to enjoy these formative years as you figure out who you are and what truly resonates with you! Carmel offers a unique, close-knit community that allows you to build lasting friendships and connections that are truly invaluable. Appreciate the safe and supportive environment Carmel and Perth provide, especially in these challenging times for Jews worldwide. Be grateful for the strong sense of identity and belonging you’re developing. The values and community you’re building now will be a source of strength as you move forward in life.

Take advantage of the opportunities in front of you and explore your interests without pressure. Remember, it’s perfectly fine not to have it all figured out by graduation! How are you supposed to know what you want to do with your life when you’re 18? In truth, most people never really ‘figure it out’ ever, which is quite relieving to learn. ÌýWhen I left Carmel, my plan was to become a lawyer, but I’m grateful I explored other paths and found my passion in healthcare. Life isn’t linear so embrace change, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes. These are the moments that will help you grow and understand what is truly important to you!!
